Abbey Ward - Councillors Ian Blake & Mike Thomson

There are two Conservative Councillors for the Abbey Ward on Dumfries and Galloway Council. The ward includes the communities of Palnackie, Dalbeattie, Kippford, Rockcliffe, Kirkbean, Southerness, New Abbey, Beeswing, Kirkgunzeon, Troqueer, Rotchell and Cargenbridge.

Councillor Ian Blake is Chairman of the Police, Fire and Rescue Committee and has membership of the Policy, Resources and Education and Community Services Committees.

Ian's surgeries are held in Dalbeattie Day Centre, Burn Street, Dalbeattie between 6.30 and 7.30pm, on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Dates, times and venue of  for a Troqueer surgeries are being finalised.

The Abbey ward is large and rural, so Ian is always happy to visit constituents in their home community. If you would like to make an appointment, please call, write or email Ian.

Councillor Mike Thomson was elected to Dumfries & Galloway Council at a by-election held on 1st May 2008. His fantastic win - with a 7% increase in the Conservative vote - was the first Conservative win in a by-election since the new electoral system was introduced.

Mike is married to Debbie and lives in the Abbey ward, on the outskirts of Dumfries. He is a well known figure across the region, having been an independent councillor until 2003.

Mike is a member of the Planning, Housing and Environment committee, and is absolutely committed to making a difference for local residents across the Abbey ward.
